About Elizabeth Day
Elizabeth Day is a representational artist trained in the classical method. She has studied extensively with a renowned Ateliers in both Florence and London.
Her work spans the mediums of drawing, oil painting, sculpture and on occasion photography. Working mainly from life she utilises the Chiaroscuro technique in both her drawing and painting to predominantly produce portraits, figuritive pieces and still life. Her preference for working from life as a champion of realist figuritive art is inspired by the complexity of the human anatomy, and inspires her to capture the individual spirit of each subject and embed a powerful narrative within each piece.
Using the classical method, she begins her oil paintings in grisaille, taking time to set the composition, values and tonal ranges before adding the colour. This allows her to capture the essence of the subject and embed a powerful narrative within each piece.
Her sculptures begin life in clay and are then cast using the indirect ‘Lost-wax' method.
Her studio is based in London.
